Admission to AUST is based on academic performance and potential. As part of the admissions process applicants will be informed whether they will have to take an entrance examination, and the dates and location for such an exam. The Masters Programs offered by the AUST are graduate studies in the fields of science and engineering. Admissions for 2010/2011 are for the following MSc/PhD programs:
For 2010/11 the cost of the program is $15,000. See the Financial Aid section, for a breakdown of the costs. Full and partial scholarships are available to qualified applicants. Full scholarship covers only tuition, room and board. The university does not provide monthly monetary stipends in addition to scholarships.
Students are expected to cover their transportation to the AUST campus in Abuja.
The 1st year AUST courses are taught at the Advanced Undergraduate and Graduate Level. This means that for students to be able to follow and benefit from the courses, they should have adequate preparation in Mathematics and the Basic Engineering Sciences prior to starting this program. Requirements for admission are as follow:
In addition, below are the specific perequisites for each program:
Analysis / Advanced Calculus / Linear Algebra / Topology / ODE and Complex Analysis taken at undergraduate level.
In addition to good preparatory Mathematics courses, students are expected to have knowledge of a modern programming language (e.g. Java, C, C++, and Computer Operating Systems).
Mathematics knowledge at least equivalent to courses in Calculus, Advanced Calculus (Vector Analysis, Multivariable Calculus), Linear Algebra and Differential Equations. Students are also expected to have taken courses at an intermediate level in Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics and Quantum Mechanics.
Mathematics
At least 4 semesters of Mathematics courses covering Calculus, Linear Algebra, Advanced Calculus (Vector Analysis and Multivariable Calculus) and Ordinary Differential Equations.
Computation
Knowledge of a (modern) programming language is expected.
Engineering Science
Mechanics (Solids and Engineering Mechanics), Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics (for Petroleum Students) and General Chemistry (for Material Science Students).
